FORGEThe server platform that grows with you

FORGE is the server platform that grows with you: EPYC 4004 processors, 3 Gbit/s guaranteed at the port, memory expansion up to 192 GB and 4 drive bays. The memory is DDR5 with on-die ECC. 4 configurations cover the range from a single Kubernetes node to a database server with 16 cores and 3D V-Cache.

Scope

If you need more than 16 cores or registered ECC, you are better off with TITAN.

Four terms before the models

They appear on every model card of the FORGE series — explained here in a brief sentence each, so the cards below can be read without questions. ENTRONYX CLOUD uses these four terms with the same meaning across all Bare Metal series.

Rack unit (U)
The height measurement of a server rack, 44.45 mm per unit. It determines how much cooling surface and how many drives fit into a chassis.
ECC memory
Memory that detects bit errors itself and corrects single ones, instead of passing the error on to the application.
Uplink
The server's connection to the network. In this series 3 Gbit/s — this is the upper limit, not an average.
Traffic
The monthly volume of transferred data. Here unlimited per model — outbound traffic is neither counted nor billed extra.

ECC in the FORGE series: FORGE-12, FORGE-16, FORGE-24 and FORGE-32 On-Die.On-die ECC corrects single-bit errors in the memory chip itself. It does not report them to the operating system and does not secure the path between module and processor; unbuffered and registered ECC report corrected errors to the system.

An open full-depth 1U server on a seamlessly dark background, from diagonally above from the rear left corner: at the front two power supply modules side by side in their own bays, each with a perforated ventilation grille, handle, green status light and its own power socket — a power cable is plugged into the left one, the right socket is empty. Next to it the connector panel behind a sheet metal bezel and a network card on a galvanised bracket, behind it the open interior with heatsink on a copper base and a row of fans.

4 configurations of the FORGE series

The stated prices apply to the reference location Frankfurt. The location list on each card shows the monthly price for the respective data centre. It already includes the regional factor — the fixed surcharge or discount of a location compared to Frankfurt. The factor is fixed: ENTRONYX CLOUD has neither daily prices nor utilisation surcharges.

Opened 2U server chassis from diagonally above on the workbench: heatsink with copper base over the socket, populated and locked memory banks, fan wall, power supplies with IEC connector at the back, drive bays at the front.
What's inside a node of the FORGE series: 6 to 16 physical cores, up to 32 threads and 32 GB to 64 GB memory. A thread is not a core — two of them share one.

Single-core and multi-core indices are a calculated classification across all 17 Bare Metal models, not a measurement: the single-core index is based on the boost clock according to the manufacturer's specifications and a factor per processor architecture, the multi-core index additionally on the number of threads. The scale of the bars is therefore comparable across series. The index 100 corresponds to one core of the EPYC 9354.

Next to each bar is the index value as a number — the bar only shows the ratio. A bar twice as long means twice as much computing power according to this classification, not twice as fast response times in your application.

Server motherboard from above, memory banks in two banks left and right of the socket, several slots still free.

What FORGE is built for

8 load profiles for which this series is the right platform — each with the reason why.

If you need more than 16 cores or registered ECC, you are better off with TITAN.

High-traffic web services
Delivery, APIs and downloads with 3 Gbit/s guaranteed at the port — without volume metering, without a neighbour sharing the line.
Kubernetes nodes
Single workers in a small cluster. Local NVMe handles image cache and emptyDir, the vRack — the private second port — handles traffic between the nodes.
Growing databases
Start with 32 GB and grow: memory and drives can be expanded on the same platform without migrating.
Container nodes
Nomad, Swarm or Kubernetes with a local registry mirror. Image pulls run via the vRack and do not burden the public uplink.
Application servers
PHP-FPM, Node or Java behind a reverse proxy. The 99th percentile response time remains constant because no external VM is computing on the same core.
Production databases
PostgreSQL or MySQL with write-ahead log on local NVMe, twelve cores for parallel queries and a guaranteed uplink for replication.
Virtualisation
Proxmox VE or KVM with SR-IOV and PCIe passthrough on your own bare metal — without hypervisor overhead and without external guests on the same cores.
In-memory DB
Redis, Valkey or column-oriented caches whose hot working set lies in the 3D V-Cache. The memory can be expanded without changing the chassis.

Bandwidth and lanes are the actual budget

Core counts are on every data sheet. What slows a server down in production are two other figures: how much memory bandwidth there is per core and how many PCIe lanes are left after network and NVMe.

Memory and PCIe configuration of the FORGE platforms. Bandwidth = channels × memory clock × 8 bytes.

Theoretical peak values of the memory connection according to the manufacturer's specifications. What actually arrives depends on the access pattern and is regularly significantly lower — our own measurement with a named tool and load profile is pending and will be added here as soon as it is available.

How the lane budget works out

An NVMe drive occupies four lanes, a network card four to eight. The EPYC 4004 models work on the AM5 platform with 28 lanes: four NVMes occupy sixteen, the network connection most of the rest. More than four drives and one network card will not fit.

If you need more drives, an HBA or an accelerator card later, plan for TITAN from the start — there the lanes of a server platform with eight to twelve memory channels are available.

Which error correction FORGE supports

All FORGE systems work with DDR5, which corrects single-bit errors in the memory chip itself: FORGE-12, FORGE-16, FORGE-24 and FORGE-32 On-Die. This on-die correction does not report errors to the system, and it does not detect errors on the way between the module and the processor. For production operations, this is sufficient for many services; for a database with a three-digit gigabyte cache size, reported ECC is the difference between an alert and a corrupt index that is noticed weeks later.

If you want corrected errors reported and logged, choose TITAN with registered ECC. There, corrected errors run into our monitoring, and we replace a module above the threshold in the next maintenance window.

Which model

The four models differ in cores and cache, not in the platform: same guaranteed uplink, same configuration for memory and drives. FORGE-32 features 3D V-Cache and is the choice for databases whose working set fits in the cache. There is a difference of €129.41$150.12 per month between the smallest and the largest model.

An Intel platform with AMX for inference on the CPU, or a certification that explicitly requires Intel, is listed in the catalogue in the TITAN series.

What FORGE costs at each location

The region factor reflects the electricity price, capacity and connectivity of the respective location. It applies to the base price, not to add-ons. Term discounts are optional, but not required — without a commitment, you can cancel monthly.
